As this is my first attempt to learn how this Blog thing works, I thought I would start off by posting some random images of the Semi-Cloned Cox PT-19 kit. Enjoy.
Random shots of the Semi-Cloned Cox PT-19 build.
Fitting the top fuselage looking to get the cockpit in the correct spot
Decided to double-layer the top fuse/cockpit so the edges could be somewhat rounded in a more pronounced fashion
Shaving the trailing edge down to a nice bevel
Rounded the edges of the top of the fuselage (razor plane and sand paper)
Gear landing wire blocking and engine firewall assembly. the Cox .049 bolts directly to this
Showing the control assembly - I like the inside hole because when I crash... I don't wanna mess around :)
I found that installing the bell crank onto the platform (with the control rod in place) was easier before gluing the platform in place. No way would I have been able to get my large hands into those little areas... would have had to rip it apart - install the bell-crank before installing the platform!!!

Making sure I have the right up and down and neutral before covering the bottom with 1/16" balsa and clipping the wire/bending it permanently
Probably more than needed but I simply matched the original Cox rudder offset
Shown here that I made before I reproduced the actual Cox PT-19 replica bell cranks out of aluminum. Only thing now is to be sure to cut any bolt protrusion out the bottom as the bell-crank bolt now mounts top down with lock nut underneath.

here was another test fit of all the parts before I began the very first assembly
At this point I am very satisfied and ready to paint
I used aluminum foil to mask most of the plane off before covering with RustOleum High Performance Enamel which seems to be fuel proof.
Adding the 3D printed windshields vs the flimsy plastic ones I originally installed gave this a more authentic look for sure. Now I just need to clone some Cox pilots... but that is for future Pete to worry about.
Lastly I took the time to draw the original decals and printed them on glossy white vinyl so that helped give it a more authentic look and I now include those in the kit. You MUST fuel proof these decals before using glow fuel. I like using KlassKote Gloss clear 2 part epoxy coatings on mine.
